References and Textbooks for Metalworking

November, 2005

This page describes some of the books and references I have found useful in metalworking.

Machine Tool Practices by Kibbe, et al. is an excellent textbook used in schools to train novices in metalworking equipment, terminology, and techniques. It is an expensive new item at amazon.com (ISBN: 0131188968). You may find older used editions cheaply at abebooks.com (search now) or eBay (search now). The 8th edition was current in 2005, but the 4th edition or later are fine for manual techniques.

Machinery's Handbook (see http://www.industrialpress.com/mh.htm) is a must-have reference for any serious metalworking.

Marks' Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers addresses a lot of the issues in mechnical design.
